Michael was working last night and since I didn’t have anything planned, I decided to relax on the couch and watch some TV. Turns out there’s nothing that really sparks my interest on Thursday night, so I was flipping the channels. For some reason I stopped on the Disney Channel. At the very start of High School Musical. Ever head of it? The story follows a jock and a math geek who really liked each other and want to audition for the school play. They can both sing really well, but are afraid of what their friends will think. The best part of the movie is that they’re always breaking out into song and dance.
People, I watched the whole damn thing. All two hours of it. The number one grossing movie for kids ages 6-14? I watched it. It wasn’t good. It was bad. Soooo bad. Yet addicting. They even had the lyrics written out on the bottom of the screen and holy hell was I actually singing along? “Why am I feeling so wrong/My head’s in the game/But my heart’s in the song.”
Here’s what I really don’t get. Zac Efron and Ashley Tisdale. Am I the only one who’s freaked out by Zach’s alien face and Ashley’s giant hair?
During the movie, there was a running countdown of how many hours were left until the premiere of High School Musical 2. When I turned off the television we were at 22 hours and counting.
God help me if I’m home at 8 o’clock tonight.

I’m 23, and I must admitt that I too have watched the entire thing. I was a little disappointed because I was expecting an actual high school musical - not a musical about a high school!
I am still not sure what attracts little kids to it. Do 6 year olds relate to high school now?

Don’t worry, we all do things that make us feel young again. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that! Who wants to grow up and be all “adult” and stuff? ew.
Just yesterday the girls at work were making fun of me for eating like a 5 year old. When I pack my lunch I always have so called “little kid” food. Little debbie snacks, yogurt or applesauce, fruit, mac & cheese or PB & J. Yes I’m 25, but I eat like a 5 year old. Get over it.

I read on CNN that the new musical is going to be the top rated movie on cable. Apparently you are not the only one watching, they even had live perfomances of the show in Florida.
yet somehow i still love the disney channel…did anyone ever watch “even stevens” haha oh i am really five years old..

I’m 25 and I still watch cartoons/disney movies (my personal favorite? Moto-crossed… there I said it!), and I am like Michelle and I pack my lunch (which could easily be confused with a fifth grader’s lunch). I think it is great to not be “too adult”- after all, I look back at the freedom of my childhood years with a fond smile on my face!

I totally got sucked into watching the whole thing last week! They didn’t have the words to the songs running along the bottom. Good thing too I totally would have broke out into tone-deaf song. Oh yeah and i’m 26 and love some of the shows on the disney channel. (Have a serious Hannah Montana addiction lately) Ok i’ve told too much.

I’ve been totally intrigued by all the hoopla surrounding this High School Musical thing (initially I thought it was a movie, like an in-the-theaters movie and then I was like REALLY? TV MOVIE?). Sometimes it’s good to have a little cheese on a Thursday night, eh?
And, yeah, I still watch cartoons. Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends is a favorite; I actually DVR it.

Umm Clink? I thought it was an in-the-theaters movie too and then Molly was all like ‘I watched it on TV’ and I was all ‘ohhh whoops!’
I saw the cast on the Today show a couple weeks ago and yes, his alien face and her big hair freak me out.
Also, Molly? Last night was the season finale of SYTYCD, so I am appalled at you basically saying that nothing good was on. I am not sure if I can continue to be your friend.

I read The Princess Diaries (as in the books, not the movies). I just kept telling myself that it would be a good book for my daughter to read some day (and um, I don’t have a daughter or anything incubating yet).
So I understand.

OMG Clink - I LOVE LOVE Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends (and if I had DVR I probably would record it).
best. cartoon. ever.
And like klc/anna, I too was watching the finale of SYTYCD last night. So glad Danny didn’t win.

A couple of weeks ago I also somehow got sucked in to watching it. And, I too thought it was a movie theater movie, with all the hype and all. It was HORRIBLE! There are good movies on the Disney Channel sometimes but that wasn’t one of them.

I’ve watched it. I also will be camped out on the bed watching the second with my baby sister during “girls night”.
I agree about Ashley and Zach. There’s also something about her face that bothers me. The nose? I don’t know.
Whoever was talking about Hannah Montana, the baby sister loves loves loves her. I actually love her voice, I just wish she was singing as herself, not for the tv show. She’s like 14.

Caution: This comment will self destruct in 30 seconds….
I was flipping through channels a bit ago and got stuck on High School Musical.
It is unfairly enchanting.
We do not speak of this fox’s dark secrets again.

I was in complete agreement with you about Zac until I saw the cover of Rolling Stone. He looks very fine there. Haha. But the truth is that if you read the article, you realize that he is the most boring person in the world. What else did I expect from a Disney star?

I can’t watch it. I can’t watch Hannah Montana either.
In fact, I’ve never seen Desperate Housewives, Grey’s Anatomy. Friends, Sienfeld, Everybody Loves Raymond, Star Trek…
I just find that prime time network TV bores me. and if people start liking shows and quote dialog—well, nothing turns me off faster.
And that Ephron kid? Born in a pod, I swear to God!!!
PS….I also hate people who are late and those with B.O. AND those with pronounced white or black heads anywhere visible on the face. How can anyone sane person NOT know that a Mount Ranier is festering on the side of their nose???????

I haven’t seen either of those High School Musicals but I was watching the Disney Channel ‘The Suite Life of Zach and Cody” when there were ONLY 8 hours and 22 minutes remaining until the premiere of HSM2 AHHHHHHH! I was pumped
not really though. but I will make sure to snap some photos of the HSM parade in Disney for you. You can start counting down now!

I looooove HSM!
But I missed HSM 2 and I probably won’t be able to see it for a long time. It’s kind of pathetic to be as bummed out as I am about it.

It’s oddly addicting. You’re right, it is a terrible movie… terrible. But when high school musical 2 came out, you betcha did I watch it. Damn it if I’m not a sucker for singing and dancing in unison.
It just reminds me of newsies… is there anything better than newsies?
