Friday
12:30 p.m. Meet Elle for lobster mac & cheese. It is delicious, but I’m still feeling stressed over venue/family/money stuff. I tell Elle about it as we eat.
1:15 p.m. Lunch is over and I’m feeling sick. Can’t tell if it’s the mac & cheese, the stress or a bug. Am annoyed.
2:25 p.m. Leave work early and head for the couch. Why am I feeling so sick? (And really, no. I’m not pregnant. Promise.)
7:15 p.m. Am feeling a little better. Val arrives and we head out to pick up dinner.
9:40 p.m. Am out cold on the couch. Apparently, I am old.
Saturday
10:30 a.m. Arrive in Newport for our first venue of the day. Fall in love. It’s THE place, we both think so.
11 a.m. Sit down to go over how much it would cost to host wedding at this venue.
11:30 a.m. Realize that this may be much more than we can afford, but hope for the best anyway.
1 p.m. See second venue of the day. It doesn’t compare to the first and the old mansion seems dark and musty.
3:30 p.m. Call mom to discuss finances. Am told what I already knew–we can’t afford that venue.
3:35 - 4:25 p.m. Meltdown. Feel overwhelmed and frustrated with planning. Feel disappointed and sad about venue.
4:30 - 6 p.m. Sit down with wonderful fiance and figure out how much we can swing. Come to conclusion that wherever we have our wedding it will be beautiful.
7 p.m. Still feeling stressed, but try to eat before going out for the night. Only manage a couple bites.
8:30 p.m. While getting ready to go out, Michael notices my back has broken out in hives. Excellent.
9 p.m. - 12:30 a.m. Meet up with friends and celebrate engagement with drinks and shots. Manage to forget about stress and have a good time.
Sunday
3 p.m. Look at another venue that I only booked an appointment with as an afterthought.
3:2o Fall in love with venue. Realize that it’s a beautiful, oceanfront venue that we can afford. Rejoice!
3:30 p.m. Pencil in date with wedding planner. Plan on finalizing date early this week.
Today
10:25 a.m. Feeling really, really happy. I’m getting married!

Yay! How exciting! It’s so great that you found the perfect place that won’t eat up all of your money. Ocean front sounds fabulous. I can’t wait to see photos.

Is this THE venue? The greatest venue? The venue that I’m going to send you pictures of??
I’m super happy for you! Check one thing off the list!

So excited! That’s the most important thing to cross off the list, so hurrah.

awe so excited you found THE place Molly
now it’s time to de-stress. at least for the time being. i think the next part of your planning should be what cookies to make because really? how not stressful is that?!!

It’s weird how everything falls into place when you don’t expect it to. I’m glad you were able to find a place that you love that’s in your price range.
And Clink is totally right. Once you have the venue everything else seems to fall into place b/c the venue is the most stressful item.

Oh yay i’m so glad you found it!!! And we do need to send you to the spa, you need a good de-stress.
You seem to be flying through this wedding planning stuff. Fiance, check! Dress, check! Venue, check!

I can really sympathize with stress affecting your stomach/health. I struggle with that all the time. On the night before my wedding i totally broke out in hives. but it was ok and they faded by the morning.
unless you think the lobster gave you hives. lol.

Hardest part? Done. Check. Finished. Wahoo! Reward yourself with a massage or a pedicure or something. Hives bad, pedicure good!

Oceanfront! That sounds wonderful. About the stress part, that’s perfectly normal. I’ve felt like throwing up during wedding preps plenty of times. All it takes is an hour long deep tissue massage. And a mani-pedi with the girlfriends.

Hooray! A few months ago my sister was looking for venues- pretty stressful! What is the penciled date?

I second Lisa’s question. What’s the date? I am sooo glad you’re feeling better. And very proud of you that you stuck through the disappointment of the first ‘perfect’ venue, and found a better one! YOU’RE GETTING MARRIED!!!!!!!!!!!! AHHH!

Yay for a great venue. Maybe it’s like Goldilocks and three bears or something. First venue was too small, second (and however many others you saw) was too pricey, third was juuuuuuust right. So glad you found it!

Hey - that’s great! Happy that it worked out for you!
And you are not old as I was barely able to move on Friday because I was so tired (for no reason whatsoever).

An ocean front venue…. *sighs* It sounds like it’s all working out. Hives aside, obviously.

Yay! I’m so glad that you found a beautiful venue that you can afford! I was all worried that you were going to say you bankrupted yourselves for the first venue.

I’m sooooo happy you found a place! Don’t worry, the initial stress will probably subside. On the positive side, Carrie Bradshaw got hives when she was stressed so…uh yay!

you should be so proud of yourself that you have three major components (bridesmaids, dress, and venue) of your wedding picked out in under three weeks. you=bride extraordinare!

your mom
well, it’s been how many days since the engagement?……and along with some plans being put in place with great speed, she’s had a couple of tearful meltdowns already.
luckily, molly usually has the capacity to get a grip on reality after some processing. she had some pretty astute insights into her disappointment and then happy recovery about the venue.
i have a feeling the key words to remember throughout this journey might be GET A GRIP……. or STAY CENTERED….
i figure there are going to be some strange and/or interesting twists on the horizon to come, but it all will work out in the end….. hopefully a year-long journey that will be filled with FUN planning, culminating in a joyous day….

Yay! You found the place—that’s awesome! It will be beautiful, Molly. You clearly put a lot of thought into everything, from what you write on your blog to your shoes and your friends and family. You care about the small stuff in a good way (not that friends or family is small stuff!). But really, I have no doubt that you’ll find all the perfect details to make this your dream wedding. Congratulations!

And, by the way, thank you for publicly announcing that you have fallen asleep on a non “school night” at 9:40pm. Now I do not have to live in shame anymore and will no longer hide my old lady nights.
