Today my friend sent me the proof of my wedding invitation and I’m in love with it. Personal info is blurred, but you can get the idea.
I’m looking for opinions. The original proof has a red bar on the bottom that I can’t decide if I like or not:

This is it without the bar. I think I’m leaning towards this one, but I can’t decide! If I go with this one I will have the leaves spread farther across the bottom.

Thoughts?

I like the second option better, definitely with the leaves spread out a little bit more. I love them - they’re beautiful! The first one almost looks like the red bar is a mistake.

yeah, i vote sans bar.
gives the invite a more graceful and less designed look.

I like the second option. And I really like the color in the invitation. I hate the boring ones I usually see.

The one with the red bar makes me want to vomit.
Kidding.
But, I do prefer the one without the red bar.

Oh I loooove. So pretty.
I do like it without the bar, much nicer look. I think the red bar makes your eyes jump there instead of to the more beautiful parts.

Without the bar!
You seriously make me look bad with all your planning doneness!

I think I would prefer one with a bar but not red and not that big. Maybe a thinner purple one? Or maybe it just looks like something is missing because there is no black border at the bottom of the one without the bar.

I like the one without the bar too.
You make me worry! My wedding is in August and I still haven’t ordered the invitations. Guess I need to get on that next week.
Happy weekend!

I like both layouts - the second a little more I think - but was most struck by the copy. Very simple and elegant and “dinner and dancing to follow” is quite Austen-esque! I don’t know if this is a US standard, but it’s very lovely.

Go without the red bar and spread the leaves out… I think it’d be a classier look!

I would go with the second one without the bar. Also, I am not in love with the font that was used for your names. Just a thought. There are so many great fonts that you might ask for them to show you some additional proofs with other choices.
PS. I love purple and red! You’ve got great taste.

Are you doing letter press? Looks lovely!
My suggestion: option 2 but get a paper that is frayed at the bottom (as if it were handmade)–you get a special effect but without the loud burst of color so that everything stays soft.
Have a great weekend!

I like both but I think I like the bar. It pulls the invite together and gives it a polished look.

thank heavens for the 2 above me… i thought i’d be stoned if i said i liked the one with the bar. i can’t help it… i love a POP! it reallys makes the red leaves that are mixed in stand out more. but they both look nice overall.

i think it’s a win win though!

I like it without the bar– I feel like it weighs everything down, red or not. Spreading the leaves a bit more across the bottom will be nice, too, but I definitely wouldn’t go too far to the right, because then there is just too much “stuff” there.

I also like the bar… it’s a nice colour tie-in with the red text and the red leaves.

Not too many takers on the bar, but I like it. A little extra splash of read. I think it makes it look more ‘finished’ too. (but I’ll come either way)

I like the red bar, actually. It gives a nice border. Maybe the second one but with a thin, dark grey line just to give it an edge?

i am very inclined to say with the red bar because, if i am remembering correctly, you are wearing red shoes for you wedding so i think it is a nice way to tie everything together. although there was one commenter who said maybe make the bar a little smaller, which isn’t a bad idea either.
May 9, 2008 at 1:24 pm

SOOOOOOOOO lovely!
I vote for the one without the bar too.
I second Courtney’s suggestion of maybe having torn-edged paper, to give it extra texture. You know, if that’s within reason.
Everything looks SO good!

I like the bar. Maybe you can thin it out or do a trim all around with red?

Nice work lady! Those are gorgeous. I agree with the masses . . . no bar. You want the attention on the words and pretty leaves, not on the bottom of the page!
Seriously all this stuff just makes me want to have another wedding!! (Same guy of course

i TOTALLLLT jus teft you the bestt comment ever. yes i am tipsy. it was oemthing about NO bar, but i love the invites, but no bar being toward the invites because helllo bars are imperatives to wedding. open, tat is.

toughie. i don’t mind the red bar. you could attempt to have a red bar at the top too, if you wanted. if you go without the bar I def. like your idea of spreading the leaves further along the bottom. Also, if you’re going to do a backing/pocketfold of any kind behind the invitation card itself, perhaps the red bar might be “too much”….

Without the bar on the bottom - only because it messes up the pretty falling leaves.
But how about on the right? There’s some empty space there. You can test it out by slapping it on with an imaging program if you so wish. It looks nice with a slim red line on the right - yes I tested it out .. IT geek and all
Can e-mail them to you but think you can easily do them on your own.
