After discovering that OnDemand has a ton of workouts, I decided to start giving them a try. I’ve been toying with the idea of cancelling my (very expensive) gym membership in favor of a workout that interests me a little more. With the weather getting warmer, tennis, walks, and maybe some dance classes would be good supplements for cardio and strength training I could do for free in my living room.
I gave Carmen Electra’s Strip Aerobics a try, but after 20 minutes of her warm ups (“Now neck stretches! To the left, two, three, four…now the right! Two, three, four…”), I was bored and tired of her bad cue card reading.
Also, I knew that wasn’t going to be strong enough cardio and since I was curious about why everyone has been raving about Jillian Michaels’ 30 Day Shred, I figured I’d give it a go.
Holy crap, I hate that woman.
I can’t walk today. I’m doing that old person shuffle that requires very little movement in the thigh area. Her combination lunge slash arm lift slash torture left me in a lot of pain, and I wasn’t expecting the workout to be so non-stop. She goes from cardio to strength to abs and back again with hardly time to catch your breath. I guess that’s why it works.
So…30 Day Shred, day one down. My sister is coming today to visit me for a week and while she continues to recover on my couch from gallbladder sugery, she will have quite a good show watching me sweat and curse at the television.
Ow.

Dude it hurts so good
It gets better and you will definitely start to see a difference in your endurance in a couple of days if you stick with it.
I begin Level 2 tomorrow and I’m scared out of mind. I just have to keep reminding myself that its only 25 minutes! I can do it!

I keep hearing about this 30 day shred. Sounds like everyone “hates” Jillian, but says it works. Love to hear updates on it after you’ve been doing it a little longer.
Soreness is always good, means you’re working something.

OMG I tried Satan’s Workout aka Jillian On Demand.
I gave up and bought an $800 elliptical.
Good luck!

Oh, man. I was thinking about buying this DVD off of Amazon, yesterday. Thanks for this post. My new place has On Demand and I found the 30 Day Shred. I already can’t walk too well from a work out two. days. ago. but let’s go for broke and make me completely immobile!

I’m on level three and in a serious love/hate relationship, actually until two days ago it was complete hate/hate, until of course my old pants zipped up…

SWEET! I just bought that DVD last week, but I was warned about the aftermath, so I am waiting until after my 10 mile race on Sunday to start it.
I have a girl crush on Jillian, but I am worried that I may not like her so much after this =)

OMG! Jillian is INSANE!!! I cant stand her…I have that video and her front and back videos and I hurt so badly after them its not even funny. My SIL and I actually decided that runing up and down the large hills in our neighborhoods is easier than that LOL.

OH MY GOD I FEEL YOUR PAIN! I did it yesterday for the first time. I was walking into a meeting this morning, and my client asked if I needed a wheelchair! I knew I was moving slow, but I thought I was pulling off a slow graceful calm walk. Apparently, I just look like I’m dying! It better work.

Good luck!! I love the workout. Oddly enough love and hate can be interchangeable given the day.
I am on Day 40-something of The Shred, and if you stick with it, the results really are awesome!
Have you looked into becoming a Shredhead? There is info about them here: http://thecasualperfectionist.com/30-day-shred/ They are an awesome group and very motivating.
If *I* can do it, anyone can do it.
Good luck!!

I had no idea there are workouts on OnDemand! Of course, I checked out 30 Day Shred this morning…while sitting on the couch in my jeans. I think I’m going to give it a try despite all the scary comments your post has generated! Good luck to all of us, I guess!

Eerie — this is the third time this week I’ve heard about this workout. I guess this is a sign for me to get off my rear and try it. >_<

I’m a shreader… or better known as a shread head. Level two sucks the worst, but level 1 and 3 are AWESOME. I lost the last few pounds before my wedding like *snap* that with Jillian. I just started doing burn fast boost metabolism (also by JM). You’d like that one too. Hardcore man.

I knew OnDemand had workouts, but haven’t checked them out before. I had absolutely no idea that it had Jillian’s Shred though! I haven’t tried it, but have heard so much about it I was toying with the idea of buying the DVD. If I can get it OnDemand, then I think I will definitely give it a try. Keep us posted as to how long it takes until you feel normal again!!

I too heard all the craze about Jillian’s 30 Day Shred being available OnDemand and started it last week.
It’s A.W.E.S.O.M.E! You’ll love it in no time

I LOVE this workout! it’s funny you wrote about it this morning because I just did Level 2 this morning and stared at myself naked in the mirror hahah and I seee a difference!! Level 1 is still hart but no longer a near-death experience
Keep it up! I even made my bf do it and he nearly died but you feel so pumped afterwards because you know you just achieved something amazing!

Exercise as vigorous as that is supposed to help your endurance. Good luck!

I LOVE the 30 day shred, it is so awesome! I admit I’ve been stuck on level 1 for the past, oh, six months. But I figured if I’m still sweating like crazy after each workout… I’ve lost at least 10 pounds before my wedding, and have way more endurance than I ever had. Good luck!

Oh god. I have a love/hate relationship with 30 day shred level 1. I have a pure hate relationship with level 2 and thankfully, no relationship with level 3.
Level 1 really did get easier. Level 2 still hurts me, ouch.
I miss OnDemand, I used to have it and liked the selection of workouts. I like all the Biggest Loser workouts actually, they are pretty good.

Yeah. I was shocked at how hard it was! I took a break for several days. Hopefully I will get back on the wagon this weekend. After I’m done being sick. Blech.

The Carmen Electra Fit to Strip is pretty good. It is actually aerobics. Granted, I’m sure it has nothing on Jillian Michaels. That woman scares me.

I feel your pain, literally! I’ve been doing the Shred for about a month now, but not every day. I’ve done mostly level one, but have progressed to mixing in level 2. I tried level 3 once, and Oh. My. God. So, so hard!!
Good luck!!

Is everyone doing this thing?! I feel so left out! I must track this DVD down ASAP!
I did order her bootcamp wii game though. It’s probably more crap than the DVD.
I might try both!

Jillian Michaels work outs are the best! and I completely agree with you about the carmen electra “workout”. How did she ever sell those to anyone? you can only do so many neckrolls and shoulder shrugs.
