I received great responses about wanting to jump on the weight loss bandwagon so I’m making it official! The These Little Moments Weight Loss Challenge begins Thursday, July 30th and will end on Thursday, August 27th (because I leave for the wedding the next day.)
Rules:
1. Set a goal for yourself. Do you want to lose 5 pounds this month? Start running? Cut calories? Lose inches? Whatever it is, make it realistic for the next 27ish days. Also, please make it healthy. No eating nothing but celery for a month.
2. Keep a record of your activities. What are you doing to reach your goal? Be as specific as possible so others can benefit from you.
3. Keep a record of your successes and your stumbles. Lost a bunch this week? Awesome! Gained a little back, that’s OK too. There’s a readership of support behind you.
4. Email me your weekly results and how you reached them each week by Tuesday afternoon. I will compile them for a weekly Weight Loss Wednesday post where we can all cheer each other on. tlmoments (at) gmail (dot) com. We can also discuss specific topics such as diet, exercise tips, etc. each week. If you have a question for the group, include it in your email.
To participate, leave a comment on this post with your name, goal and link to your blog if you have one (just put it in the blog link field…if you put your link in the body of the comment, it tends to go to spam.)
I’m so excited to start this journey with you!

Oh Molly, you are getting me motivated. I’ve been struggling with the same 5-10 pounds for the past six months. I know I can literally blast it off if I stop digging in to that damn ice cream. So my goal is to lose 5 pounds, or get back in to my skinny jeans. Whichever comes first

Dude, so in. Like I said earlier I’m trying to lose 10 pounds by August 21. I’ve lost 3 of that so far so only 7 more pounds to go.
I choose to do the Special K diet (cereal breakfast, cereal bar snack, protein shake and a piece of fruit lunch, protein snack bar snack and a balanced dinner.) And no alcohol except on the weekends. It’s been working so far.

I want to fit into my favorite jeans again … which should be doable with a little bit of effort … yay!

I’m in! I had a baby in February, breast fed until May, and then proceeded to gain FIVE pounds after weening the boy from the boob! I, also, blame summer socializing! I’d definitely like to lose those five pounds before I go back to work on August 24th.
My plan is to simply eat and drink (alcohol) less. Thanks for the motivation!
Current weight: 137
Goal weight: 132
(Sorry, I just had to put that in writing!)

I’m in. My training starts for a half-marathon in October, so I obviously will need to stay aboard the running train. As far as eating, I need to stay healthy (around 1200-1400 cals/day) and drink only on weekends. I waste a bunch of calories relaxing with an unnecessary glass of wine on weeknights.
We’ll see how that transfers to poundage. Ultimately, I have 15 pounds I’d like to lose (I’m 134 right now, ugh), but that won’t happen by Aug 27, so I’m just going for a good month of staying on track toward that.
Thanks for the motivation!

Perfect timing Molly, I just got the 30 day shred from the library today… on a 14 day loan with no renewals! Hmmm, how will that work?

I’m in – I am getting married 9/5 and have (predictably) put on a few too many stress pounds recently. I’m aiming for 5 pounds so that I feel my best for the big day. To get there I want to commit to getting back to the gym (2-3 times a week now up to 4-5 times a week for the next month) and laying off ice cream and stress eating. I don’t like that I’m a “dieting bride” but I like even less that I’m packing on weight because of this stressful event!
Thanks for the motivation to get in gear!

This is perfect. I got out of the habit of being healthy and exercising while on my honeymoon and have had a hard time getting back into it. But I have a triathlon in mid-September and would like to get down a last 5 lbs before that. So, my goal is to be consistent with training and nutrition to lose the extra 5lbs.
Thanks, Molly!

I’m in, too! My goal is to loose 5-8 lbs by eating healthier, cutting out chocolate and big dinners (maybe replacing them with a protein shake here and there) and maybe upping the work out (which will be hard, as I already work out a lot).
Thanks for putting this together.

I’ve commented a couple times before but read often. I woke up this morning thinking “I need to get my husband to agree to a weight loss competition”. Because yea, I’ve gained ten pounds since my wedding last November, which is not cool. Perfect timing!
So my goal… 7 pounds. I really want to hit -10, but I think 7 is workable. This includes no more ice cream (this really IS a challenge), working out six days a week and walking my dog every day (separately from “working out”).

I’m definitely in!
I’m getting married next June and I need to kick start my weight loss.
If i could drop five pounds by the end of this challenge, I’d be happy.
I’d love to be down 25 by my wedding (which is the total amount of weight i’ve gained since my freshman year of college!)

I’m in!!!! Although I need to loose more than 5 pounds (more like 50-70 total) But this will give me a jump start. I figure 8-10 pounds in a month will be a good starting goal, right?
I’m gonna cut out ALL sweets, except once a week I will allow myself one treat so I dont binge on that icecream. And no fried foods. Those are my 2 weaknesses, though the sweets are the biggie.

Yay great idea. i have been stuck at around 165 (normal weight 150ish) for a year. this month’s challenge I would like to exercise more consistently – start w/ 4 times a week, and lose 5 lbs.

I have been working on losing weight all summer, this weekend I had a setback, so now I have 8 pounds left to go. Which I would like to lose before school starts. I don’t know if that’s doable b/c that’s almost 2 pounds a week, but at the very least I want to lose 3 pounds so that I’m consistently under 135. You know, even on my bloat-y days? So that’s my goal! I actually tend to lose weigh easily (don’t hate me) so I need to get back on healthier eating and consistent exercise.

I am in for this challenge!
I am not overwt at all, yet a recent wt gain of about 8lbs has caused me some medical problems!! I know, crazy! I didn’t believe my Dr. when he first told me. Anyway, would like to lose about 10lbs really, but for now will shoot for 7lbs by end of Aug.
Things I plan to do: bike 3X/wk, join a Zumba class for 1X/wk, fruits/food bar for breakfast, lighter lunch and dinner. Also get more sleep and no snacking and no alcohol for a month. It will be nice if my mom notices after a month that I did lose my dreaded 7lbs.

Count me in, too!
I want to lose 5 pounds in the next month. I’ve got about 25 to lose in general but this should get me on a good course. I’m waiting for a sparkley item to appear on my finger and I don’t want to try on one single wedding dress in my current size! I am going to cut calories (carbs and sweets) and lose some inches to get back into my favorite clothes. I want to Shred every day as well as be consistent in geting some major cardio in on the days I don’t work my 2nd job.

I’m in! Had a baby…mmm, yeah. Needless to say I’d like to be able to get out of maternity clothes before winter. I need to lose more, but let’s be realistic – 10 lbs. I have started running/walking again and am using our Wii Fit. (It really does kick my butt!)

This is funny because I was wanting to lose weight by that weekend too. I have to be a matron of honor (weird to say) for a friend. My goal is to lose 5-7 pounds by that weekend through eating better and exercising at least once a day. Here’s hoping (and committing)!

Okay, I’m in. Since I started dating my boyfriend, I’ve gained a whopping 20 pounds! Not good, especially considering I already needed to lose about 20 pounds. So now, ultimately, I’d like to lose 40-50 pounds. We’ve been looking at rings lately too, so if he pops the all-important question fairly soon, then I definitely want to get on this weight-loss thing!
My goal is to lose 5-10 pounds (really I’d love to shoot for 10, but I think 5 may be more realistic in the time-frame) and get my butt to the gym at least 5 times a week for at least 30 minutes.
(BTW, I haven’t written on my blog in a while, but starting this may inspire me to get back on there to write about how the progress is going and keep me more accountable).

Alright, I’m in. My goal is to get 2000 workout minutes in between Aug 1 and Aug 27 (we have a corporate wellness challenge at work, which is why I’m counting workout minutes and not something more normal). Works out to about 75 minutes per day (and I get 30 minutes of walking because of my commute), so I will need to get to the gym regularly in order to meet the goal. The past two months I’ve had about 1500 minutes/month, but No More Excuses! Let’s also toss in “I will eat dessert less often.” Thanks for organizing this!

Look at you inspiring the whole Internets!
Love this and looking to shake 8 pounds in one month. I ran for the first time last night since I had Henry, so that is a step in the right direction!

I love this idea, and I’m totally game. Thanks for inspiring it! I live an incredibly sedentary lifestyle, and I’ve been needing some accountability to get my body up and moving.
My small goals will be to:
-commute using public trans at least 3 days a week (which includes a mile walk)
-yoga and/or strength train at least 4 times a week.
-I’ve already been watching my diet and eating cleaner, healthier foods…so this will continue.
If I happen to trim down a little here and there…great! But I’m more interested in just getting a leeetle bit more active each day.

Thank you Molly! I have been in a rut for awhile now, not completely unhappy with my body, but not as confident with it as I’d like to be. I need to lose a few and tone up a bit. And, um, rid my kitchen of my chocolate stash. This post was just the motivation I need to finally get myself eating healthy and working out instead of just putting it off till “someday”. Can’t wait to get started and good luck to you too!

I want to play! I don’t need to lose weight but I need to tone up. I want my flat tummy back and lose the cellulite that’s creeping up on me. I just want to be healthier. I’m going to do this with cardio (walking/jogging or my aerobics video) for 30 min three times a week and strength training twice a week. No soda except weekends and eating healthy snacks instead of junk food between meals. I want to do what I can to ensure that I have a long and healthy life, and this looks like a good place to start.

I’m in… I’ve been working on this get fit…loose weight feel GOOD routine for awhile… I don’t own a scale…and have been keeping track of inches… in the next month I’d like to loose 6inches (off my hips/waist/bust)! The other main goal I have is to be active EVERY day: do at least 5 Cardio workouts(am currently at 3 a week) and do the core workout plan my friend put together for me 3 times a week. I live in the Arctic and have been currently hiking a lot… so will keep that up! Feel free to check out my blog…it’s mainly photos from where I live… a remote fly in community of 1500 people!! My goal is to tighten up and not be so flabby when my boyfriend returns from a month of backpacking! I want to flatten my stomach a *little* bit, and reduce my “love handles” a bit as well
This is great – I definitely need a little motivation to get me through the next 4 weeks!
I go to Curves, but not as regularly as I’d like to…the goal is to go 3-5 days a week!

Count me in on the challenge…boy do I need it!! I’ve gained 15 lbs over the past 3 years…ugh!! Partly my age, partly cuz I love my vino at night and MOSTLY cuz I’m so inconsistent with exercise. It’s so hard to motivate myself, particularly this past year with loosing my job.
I would like to set my goal at loosing 15 lbs, but would be thrilled if it’s only 10…that would motivate me for sure to push for the last 5. Hopefully, by Thanskgiving so I can enjoy the holidays a bit more.
Just re-inflated my exercise ball and ready to start!! I would love to learn to be a runner…or just a jogger (ok…even a FAST walker) to keep variety with doing all my exercise DVD’s. Somedays, I just want to get lipo and start all over…ha ha. My size 6 days are gone…and now the goal is to remain in my size 8′s!!!! Thanks for starting this Molly.
P.S. I love, love your blog….and each day look forward to your posts filled with humor and your perspective on life!!! : )

Better late than never, right? Please count me in. I’d like to lose 5 pounds this month, and work out at least three times a week. (I’ve been such slacker and have gained back more than 10 of the 65 pounds I lost. Someone needs to hold me accountable!) Thanks for doing this!

A Bit of This
Please count me in, because a little accountability never hurts! My goal is to go from 117 to 112 pounds in next 27 days. I already eat a pretty clean diet, so I won’t be restricting calories or anything. I will meet my goal by making sure to eat 5 meals each day including a protein and a complex carb at each meal, hitting the weights four days per week and getting some high intensity cardio in twice per week. Thanks, for doing this, Molly!

Hey there – last week was so crazy bc I was moving and work was out of control, so I have to start a little late!
I think I’m going to aim for a 5lb loss. I have a decent diet, but should cut back on the beer
. And continue to limit carbs. The biggest problem is inconsistent working out- so I need to schedule that into my day better and not let it take a backseat!
August 5, 2009 at 10:09 am
dani
Ok, I’m a little late because I thought I could do this on my own but now I’m thinking that having a community of people doing the exact same thing would really help. Yeah, I’m a little slow sometimes.
So…Drop at 10 pounds by a friend’s wedding on September 19th. When I work out regularly I look awesome, but then I think that I can slack off because I look good and it all goes down hill. So, while losing 10 pounds is part of the goal, I really want to just make exercise an integral part of my life. As it stands, it’s the first thing I get rid of when I’m stressed or sad or mad or depressed or whatever.
I tried working out 31 days in a row to form a habit, but that wasn’t a practical goal so I’ve cut it down to five days a week. Last week I did ok – taking off Thursday and Sunday. My “workout” Saturday, though, consisted of walking through a zoo and animal park and eating the foods that those places serve.
This week I took Monday off because of shin splints and bike Tuesday. I’m not sure what I weigh (I think I was at 137 a couple of weeks ago) but will start making a trek to my apt. gym to weigh in regularly. This is my birthday weekend so I have to be smart about fitting in my workouts amid the celebration.
Good luck to everyone!

I would like to join, even though the first week is over.
Long Term Goal: I would like to go from size 8 pants to size 4 pants. I would like to continue eating better and become more active.
Challenge Goal: Put on and zip up my size 6 pants that I purchased last October and have worn 2 times. Also, run 4 days a week, do the 30 day shred and jump on the Wii Fit more often(i’m tired of it collecting dust!!).

Hi Molly,
I originally decided not to do the challenge as everything in my life has been mental lately, but now I’m thinking “what better time?!”
My goal between now and Aug 27th is to lose 3lb, and see my “physicsdiet.com” average weight below 140 for the first time in months. It’s a small goal, but I am already very active, andfind I do best when I keep the weight loss very very slow.
Thanks,
Kate

OK OK…I wasn’t going to join but I need the extra motivation!! I’m not sure what my goal is, as I’m pretty comfortable with my weight right now…I think I want to focus more on toning/losing inches, but I’m not sure yet how many inches I’d like to lose (although, I assure you, they’re all from my arse!!)…let’s say minimum of 3″ from my butt …and this may change once i get home and measure tonight!
Thanks for doing this, it’s a great idea!

I would like to participate in this challenge! I was going to start last week, but I went out of town (VEGAS!) so I didn’t think it’d be a good idea to start!
That being said, my initial goals are to:
jump start my metabolism, establish some sort of workout regime and begin working on my eating habits, lose 5 pounds.
Beginning weight: 204lbs. Ultimate goal is to get down to 150 pounds or a healthy pre-pregnancy weight because my husband and I would like to start a family next year.

I’m in! I just came across this today but that still gives me three weeks to learn some good habits. I really just want to get into the habit of running regularly. Right now, I can’t even go for 1 full minute without gasping and wheezing. So, I’ll exercise at LEAST 3 times a week and start incorporating running into that little by little until I’m used to it.
