I had been such a slacker. The last time I was on a normal gym routine was two weeks ago, minus one day that I forced myself to go so as not to turn into a sloth. So when my after-work plans fell through yesterday, I decided to bite the bullet and get back on the horse. (And also start introducing lots of cliches into my every day speak.)
I live less than a minute from my work, so my “commute” didn’t leave me much time to change my mind. Neither did the time it took to sort through the mail (we only got two things), change my shoes (my flip flops were by the door) or put on Kodiak’s leash.
Once I got outside, though, my feelings started to change. It’s so warm out! I could walk around for awhile with Kodiak! Walking is exercise, after all. And think of the strength training while dragging him out from under the apple tree!
Right.
By the timeΒ we got back inside the couch and Gilmore Girls on ABC Family was seeming much more appealing (even though, yes, I have the entire series on DVD what of it?) and I knew that if I didn’t go upstairs right this very minute and put on my gym clothes I would never make it back out the door.
So I went. And I’m glad I did. Even though the gym was sweltering (do the do that on purpose?). Even though the woman next to me — affectionately dubbed “boobs” due to her rather large fake ones — kept making “wooshing” noises on the bike next to me. Even though by the end of my 40 minutes set on random on the stepper I could neither breathe nor walk properly.
I took my tomato-red face and soaked through tank top to the locker room, along with the People magazine I had been reading. I collected my belongings — which now included a ripped out page from the People I had been reading of Taylor Swift (I actually cannot stand Taylor Swift, however in this particular picture her hair looked really awesome and I thought it might be good wedding ‘do inspiration. A planning bride never rests. Not even at the gym.) — and walked over to the sink to wash my hands. It was then I noticed that despite looking the color of over-ripe produce, I was actually glowing. A post-exercise, healthy glow. And it was in that moment that I was back on the ball, back in my gym routine and actually happy to do it.
Weird.
(I was going to casually forget to mention that we had pizza for dinner, but I won’t. It was thin crust, after all, so, um, less carbs. Yeah. Less carbs.)

Getting back on the wagon is hard to do…Ask me and my horrible eating habits of late. Good for you!

Good for you! Getting back on the wagon is always hard but remember, you are doing this to be healthy. Not to mention looking way hot on your wedding day.
Oh and I’ve finally come to the conclusion that I exercise everyday so I CAN eat what I want (in moderation of course). So go ahead and enjoy the pizza and chocolate and whatever else you want!

As another that owns every season of Gilmore Girls on DVD, I still can’t walk away when it’s on TV. And yesterday’s episode was a good one – I’m impressed with your discipline.
Good job getting back on the horse. I have plans to do the same today.

Good stuff! Glad you were able to get yourself back to the gym…even better that you noticed how great you feel!
My new gym is short walk from my office, so it is a lot harder for me to talk myself out of going. It doesn’t hurt that all of the cardio machines have televisions and there are back-to-back episodes of John & Kate Plus 8 everyday at 5 & 5:30!
Don’t worry…thin crust doesn’t even count π

I thought I owned tomato face. I once stopped at the supermarket after a Bikram (hot) yoga class and the cashier told me I really should start wearing sunscreen. After any form of exercise people ALWAYS ask me if I’m okay. Damn you pale skin!

I’ve been so slacking on the gym thing with the man here. So let’s just say thank god I am lactose intolerant and therefore cannot eat pizza. But I can unload on some pasta. Sigh.

You just have to get yourself there and the rest just happens, right? That’s what I tell myself anyway…
And I’m now counting down the hours until pizza tonight π

Good for you! I bought and opened the bridal arms dvd, and it’s sitting in the dvd player, unused. Now that’s slacking.

It’s so hard to get back into working out after a break, but you feel so much better afterwards π

Oh tomato face. No matter how in shape I am I get red in the face at the slightest mention of exercise. I get flushed really easily as it is (I blush…all the time…it’s embarrassing) and exercise only exacerbates the situation. I commute on a bike and people never tire of commenting on how red my face is. Bah.

too funny. I have been going to the gym every morning before work… and last night I ate pizza as well. But damn it, I deserve it for getting my butt up and to the gym at 6AM!!! the post-work out glow is pretty awesome. it really gets me ready for the day!

Good for you! Sometimes all it take is one time to remind yourself why you kept going in the first place.
Hmmm…I guess I should probably do that too. I’m just being stubborn because there are no gyms close to me anymore and I don’t want to travel 10 minutes to get to one.

Yay for motivation and going back. I need to stop being so lazy & go back to my gym. It does feel soo good, but it’s just so hard to get back into it.

I totally thought that “Tomato Face” was referring to pizza sauce… π

I can’t believe you ripped a page out of a gym magazine π
It does feel better when you just bite the bullet and go. But boy it sucks trying to bite the bullet sometimes

You went! That’s awesome. It’s so hard to get back on the wagon. That’s probably why I never got on in the first place.

I just want you to know that I accidentally read your “Gilmore Girls” as “Golden Girls” and I was stumped as to why you would like it so much to own the whole DVD set. LOL!! I worked 13 hours today and yes that’s my excuse. However it did make me laugh for a moment, so thanks and congrats on getting back to the gym!! π
