Attention all D.C. bloggers slash anyone who has recently visited the D.C. area:

In just a few short weeks (18 days, actually, but who’s counting?) Michael and I will be celebrating our one year wedding anniversary. (Weee!) We decided that since dropping thousands of dollars on a vacation isn’t the brightest thing right now, a trip to Washington D.C. would be just the ticket. It’s not too close, not too far, and has tons to do.

But see, I haven’t been there since high school. And rather than spending hours online searching for the best places to stay/eat/visit, I thought I would put it to the masses.

Where should we go???

We’d like a hotel not too far away from the major attractions, yet still more special than your run of the mill Holiday Inn. We’d like a great breakfast place, some local hole-in-the-wall must-sees and a great anniversary dinner spot.

We’ll hit the Mall, the Smithsonian and the usual stuff, but is there anything off the beaten path we should check out?

Help me plan!
